Looking for broken screenshots

I’ve been fighting a running battle with xs.to these days, trying to scout out all the images that expired and are being replaced with a giant postcard-sized advertisement for their site. Some of those pages are almost three years old, and if it’s possible, I’d like to either make new screenshots or take out the image tags.

And besides, I’ve been running an ad-free blog for years (unless you count the four or five shameless product endorsements), and I’m not going to start advertising now. (Although the crafty ad feeders keep telling me I could make as much in traffic here as I do in my real-life job. 😯 )

If you see a page of interest that is showing a filler and not a screenshot, please send me a note. I’m in the mood to redecorate, and the first things that need to go are the dead images. Thanks. 😉

    Careful though, if Omploader thinks WP is sapping traffic, they’ll replace it with a nice picture saying you are gay. Not very mature. I thought WordPress had an uploader though.

      Good point. I know they get aggressive with high-traffic images, but I don’t know if they’d be crude to a bland old terminal screenshot. Better not test that one. 🙂

      WordPress.com does have a image loader but last time I checked it was Flash-based. I could use it (and probably should), but it adds an extra step to the posting process if I have to use a different machine (or boot into another OS) to add a photo to a post. One of the things I liked about omploader is that I could do most of that without ever leaving the console. …

      But … I’ll think about it.

        WordPress has just a regular browser form uploader too, and by default you’ve 3Gbs of storage, more if you buy the upgrade for it. It makes adding photos to posts easier too, you can just select insert image, and pick it from your media library

    Dunno how related my request is but I really miss your “old” fluxbox wallpapers/ screens with and without conky. They were really nice. If you keep them somewhere I’d like to have them back on your articles here 🙂

      Can you give me an example or a link? If it’s doable, I’ll install conky and see if I can get another screenshot. Sometimes the old conky posts get a lot of traffic. It would be worth the time to put it together.

    Somewhat off-topic, but are terminal apps fading into oblivion just like your old screenshots?

    I’ve noticed that the development of a number of the frequently praised text-mode apps (cmus, cplay, raggle, htop, etc..) has been dormant for quite a while now… even the new entrants such as moc and newsbeuter haven’t been pretty active of late.

    Are the web and cheap high-end pcs killing the terminal?

      Good question. It might just be that some of those have reached a level of maturity where they don’t need as much attention — things like htop or mc are solid and established, and probably don’t have a vast smear of bugs to chase.

      On the other hand, running console-only programs on a quad-core machine does seem rather counter-intuitive, and it might be that some of the less popular applications have fallen by the wayside. Interesting thought. …

      And the images from the “More fun X-based stuff”,”More fun GTK1.2-based stuff”, “MPlayer and Openbox”, “Howto: Vectorize images in Inkscape” as well. 8~(

        Aw, that’s a shame. I’ll probably just cut the tags out of those first two. There is too much there that would have to be reproduced.
