Creativity plus perseverance

Edit: Unfortunately, the images originally included in this post are gone, because of hosting problems in late 2009. My apologies.

Just as a side note to some age-old suggestions about using fbpanel and Openbox to mock up the default Ubuntu layout, chris4585 sent a screenshot of a system that does just that. And his is a good deal better than the rather dull ones I made, a little while ago.

You can get an idea of the hardware involved in the conky display. I forgot to ask about configuration files, but I’m sure that, with a little effort and some creativity, you could come up with something as sharp. 😀

    That looks really nice.

It’s a pity lxpanel doesn’t do multiple instances lije fbpanel – it’s got a couple of extra bells & whistles, though I haven’t found how to do custom menus and launchers on it, other than making .desktop files.

A compromise is to have one fbpanel and one lxpanel. It doesn’t seem to use much more memory than two fbpanels.

It is quite nice, isn’t it? And actually, that’s a really good idea — running fbpanel with lxpanel, instead of managing two fbpanels. I might have to try that some time. lxpanel is great for being easy to set up. running it with the other would be a nice accent.

i never thought of running a fbpanel and lxpanel at the same time, i could see the advantages of doing that, and thanks for putting my screenshot up k.mandla 🙂
