Well Calibre’s strengths are converting, managing and creating ebooks. Its really good at that.

Now this might sound blasphemous too, but try running Xubuntu 10.10 – less GNOME apps, and the memory usage might improve too…

Thanks, gutenpy is great! I've been using Calibre to read epub files, but it's so horribly huge and slow. It takes about a minute just to run, and the interface is quite sluggish.
