Dear,

How to mount the loop device, I am getting below error.

root@slack:/mnt/attache# mount -o loop /mnt/attache/slack13rails.img /mnt/attache/slack13
mount: Could not find any loop device. Maybe this kernel does not know
about the loop device? (If so, recompile or `modprobe loop'.)

also I have changed the .config file CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=y
and recompile the kernel

make
make modules
make modules_inatll
make install

But unble to mount the device.

[...] And now with Ubuntu (and perhaps even with Linux in general), it also appears to be the case. Dropping back to 8.04, which will be around for a very very long time to come, might just be the best plan for a machine that predates quad-core, 16Gb “family computers.” So long as the software is going to hog space and allow itself to become insufferably obese, then it makes sense to reach back to a time when there wasn’t as much space to work with.
With Ubuntu you might be better off following another guide for building a kernel. Try ...

as a starting point. There are literally thousands of guides out there though, so don't rely on that one only.

Excellent. Got to build a kernel myself soon. Attempting to make linux from scratch for a 486/75. No idea whats going to happen. I'll be happy as long as I don't destroy anything. Luckily got a nice 2.2ghz machine to compile on :)

In my limited experience of it, Linux power management is a debacle anyways. I have an rt73usb wifi chipset and ever since kernel 2.6.32, it has not worked properly. Upon further research, power management issues and conflicts turned out to be the main cause. Personally I use the kernels from http://liquorix.net...all the goodness without the effort ;oD
