The point is, no matter how fast the computer may be, it will always be faster on a smaller, more resource-conscious system. Why wait 3 seconds longer for a browser to fire up (Firefox vs Opera/Chrome)? Why load an application/load/save data, where a web interface suffices and brings stored data/documents with it?
And the 'wild' (cloud) has always been wild. I am more inclined to store my (non-sensitive) data under the watch of a corporation, than to put them on some Windows computer, which can be hacked by bots these days. Even Linux doesn't cut it all the way, somewhere is always a weak spot. Remember how we all give away credit cards in restaurants? Where is the paranoia there?
But back to the systems, the key is customization and preference. An OS is a platform, not a tool and not an application. It needs to fire up tools and apps quickly. That's it.
Install Kupfer (on any Linux distro) and you know what I mean.
