I think the reverse is usually what happens -- the entire kernel with all of the options is built, and then when the appropriate hardware is sensed, the modules are inserted. I like to think that this way is faster and lighter, but I&#039;m definitely no expert. Either way, I would still prefer to build it myself. I&#039;m a glutton for punishment. :twisted:]]></description>

It&#039;s probably bad practice, but I&#039;m more likely to grab a dot-release kernel when it&#039;s updated, than to patch and rebuild a kernel for a security patch. Part of that is because it takes around an hour to compile one of these, but partly because I&#039;m lazy. ... :(]]></description>
