		<description><![CDATA[all those are great.  i got really excited the first time I tried &lt;b&gt;screen&lt;/b&gt; until I realized that it doesn&#039;t have the ability to do vertical splits.  it shouldn&#039;t make that much of a difference, I guess, but this was a deal-breaker for me.

the one tool I&#039;d add is &lt;b&gt;top&lt;/b&gt; or, even better, &lt;b&gt;htop&lt;/b&gt; which I can stare at for hours.  it&#039;s especially fun to combine with &lt;b&gt;screen&lt;/b&gt; so you can watch your CPU usage as you run various processes/scripts/whatever.
