Actually, I was just getting ready to re-test them myself, and document it. If you're going to do that with First Edition, I'll do Second Edition instead. If you have any trouble with FE and the unofficial updates, though, let me know and I'll see if I can do anything to replicate it and/or help.

You did mention those, and I completely forgot. Thanks again. I'll take a look and see what's there. I have a feeling the new owner will most likely overwrite anything I put on there, but it will be interesting to learn. Cheers!

I think I've mentioned it before, but there are service packs, including the official Microsoft Windows 98 Service Pack 1, at http://www.mdgx.com. Look through the scrolling section at the left, click on "Essentials", then scroll down the main page until you either see the "WINDOWS 98 SERVICE PACK 1 (SP1) ESSENTIAL FREE UPGRADES + FIXES" link or the section "Windows 98 Service Pack 1 (SP1)".

Most, if not all, of the updates MDGx has found/been given are listed there, and the updates for other versions are there as well.

In the section above it are links to the "Windows 98 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Unofficial Fixes." I always used these, back before I started using Linux. I wholeheartedly recommend the Unofficial USB driver package, and mostly recommend the SP2 (I've had minor problems, mainly related to not installing SP1 first and combining it with 98lite, methinks). If you want to check out whether they're kosher, see http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=44732 . It's been under development for about four years; last time I used it was over a year ago so it's probably more stable now.

**goes off to test new version on unsuspecting computer**

Yep, I was going to suggest niski's link as well. Also, if you like a challenge, you could go to the MS Win98 support page and download all updates one-by-one by hand...

There was something like this:

http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html

it included more than hundred MS updates, support for usb thumb drives (ported from win2000, I guess), and many more things - still you'll have to search for and download apps such as Internet Explorer, WMP, etc. separately.
