how does this compare to Cygwin, from a terminal perspective?

I’ve been using Portable Ubuntu at work on my flash drive for the last 2 months and it has been wonderful. I now have access to all the Linux tools on my MS WinXP work computer that I’ve been dying to have. I’m actually more productive because I have better tools to work with now. This being said, there are a few bugs in Portable Ubuntu, the most frustrating being an with the MS Office clipboard not clearing correctly at times, preventing copy and paste. Otherwise, a fantastic option for those forced to use Windows.

Unfortunately, it requires admin access, so does not work at my school. I’ve fiddled with it on my home box though, and I agree with you.

Oh, and there is a way to give all drives a device so you can mount them; check out the config file. It can also mount ext2 partitions (I seem to remember).

If anyone figures out an exploit to get this running from a non-admin (I think power-user, but I’m not sure) account, let me know

(And I do use Linux normally; Kubuntu to be precise. I can’t live without a terminal that follows you around in a GUI file manager.)
