I seem to have run into a rash of bad CDs from a local discount store. And this is over the course of a few days, not just three grabbed at a time. I’ve had three or four CDRWs in a row that spin up noisy, pretend to burn and then prove completely unreadable. I can only blame it on the media, since some I bought months ago, and burned dozens of times, are still working.
I may have to look for a more reliable brand … rather than buying them at the 100-yen shop. 
Serves me right, I suppose.
