Oh no, not another one

Sigh. Now WordPress.com uses a lightbox effect for image management too, as it did for widgets and in a few other places.

Look, I agree the lightbox is cool. Or at least it was cool, a couple of years ago. Now it’s just another something that I have to wait to load, then navigate through at a reduced rate of speed, then wait while it unloads so I can go back to what I was doing.

I’m being painfully honest when I say I’m not a fan. I appreciate a good looking blog, but behind the scenes I need it to move fast and furious. The wait time on visual effects for things like image management and widget control only reinforces my decision to host images off-site, and avoid managing the widgets at all.

Behind the scenes, give me speed and control, not fluff.

Okay, now back to the important things … like building a computer that can handle all those effects out of only a stock VIC-20, a spool of cotton thread, three sticks of bubblegum and a roll of sello tape. … ;)

Hey, I’m not sure if you’re interested in hosting your blog on some paid webspace, but I think Chyrp + NearlyFreeSpeech.NET might be right up your ally. Chyrp is great, lightweight blog software, and NFSN is an excellent pay-for-what-you-use host. You really can’t go wrong with this combo, especially with wordpress.com being/becoming so limited and user-unfriendly.

I’ve thought about switching, but I’m not sure if I will. I tend to complain about WordPress.com, but don’t do anything about it. I’m such a whiner. :|

Sorry for necromancing, but if you’re still thinking about switching, I’m sure one of your readers would be thrilled to give you server space for a self-hosted WordPress (which gives you a lot more control).
