So long, you crazy kid

Well, it was a long and interesting run, but it was time to take the Ugly Little Laptop back to work, and I think this time it’s for good. I’ve taken it down from my hardware page, which is kind of final.

The XO does everything the old one was doing, and I’m having more fun learning how to make it work than I was with the Sotec. I felt like I had come to the end of my logical train with the K6-2 line; it wasn’t ever going to get any better than the Lowarch installation, or the 25-second boot with Crux — I’m fairly sure of that.

But it was a good experience, and I feel like I made some progress and learned a lot of new things.

Retirement will be very easy for the little laptop — it’s up on a shelf, on top of a stack of gift bags, wireless card plugged in and XP ready leap into action … five minutes after the power button is pressed, of course. I don’t expect anyone will ever move it from that spot, unless they need a gift bag.

But best of all, I should have another, newer addition to the family by next week. Wow! No hints, though. This is top secret. :|
