More fun with Kazehakase

Kazehakase can be more fun than a bag of cats. Here’s something nifty you can do with it, with a minimum of effort.

Take a look at this right-click menu (this is version 0.5.1 on Arch, so a different release might have a slightly different menu — I’m not sure). See the “Copy in User Format” menu?

Click on “Preferences…” You should get the “Copy Format Editor” menu, which looks like this at first.

Click on “Add,” and you’ll get a blank entry. Then click on “Title” and change that to “HTML link.” Don’t forget to press return after you type it, or it won’t be entered.

Now change the “Format” entry to what you see in this picture.

The code should be

<a href="%u%" />%t%\n

but with a closing tag for the anchor, just before the line feed. For some reason that tag gets eaten by WordPress.com. Sigh. :| Either way, be sure to hit return so the code is accepted, then press OK.

Now for the fun part. Right-click on any link. Select “Copy in User Format” again, but this time select “HTML link.”

Nothing happened, did it? That’s what you think. Now open a text editor and paste into place.

Kind of neat, huh? It’s probably not a very good example, since it would be easier to just open the page source and copy it out of there, but I think you can probably see the utility in it. It doesn’t have to be an HTML format, since the link and the title could be used however you see fit.

Have fun!

P.S.: I’m sure you can probably do something like this with Firefox too, but … I wouldn’t know because I don’t use it. :P

    K.Mandla I can’t find kazehakase 0.5.1 pacman (and yaourt for that matter) only finds 0.5.0
    What repo are you using?

    Ah, I built that one myself off the PKGBUILD in the repos. I couldn’t wait for the update. ;) Here’s my version, if you want it. I only changed the version number and the download site, and the md5sum of course. Make sure they match for you before you build it.

    # $Id: PKGBUILD,v 1.6 2007/11/11 23:37:33 pizzapunk Exp $
    # Maintainer: Alexander Fehr
    # Contributor: pressh
    # This PKGBUILD modified for 0.5.1 by K.Mandla

    pkgname=kazehakase
    pkgver=0.5.1
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="GTK+ web browser using the Gecko engine"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://kazehakase.sourceforge.jp/"
    license=('GPL')
    depends=('xulrunner')
    makedepends=('pkgconfig' 'intltool')
    options=('!libtool')
    source=(http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.jp/kazehakase/28710/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz)
    md5sums=('97e052d4436bad0fb8ad38fa36f59271')

    build() {
    [ -z "${MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH}" ] && . /etc/profile.d/mozilla-common.sh

    cd $startdir/src/kazehakase-$pkgver
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --with-gecko-engine=xulrunner \
    --with-ruby=no --with-rgettext=no
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
    }

    Check that very closely; I’m 99 percent sure WordPress.com will mangle the code.

    Hi.
    I am developer of Kazehakase. Thank you for introducing Kazehakase.

    You noted “Right-click on any link. Select “Copy in User Format” again, but this time select “HTML link.”Nothing happened, did it? “. It’s very good point.
    So I modified Kazehakase as copied text is shown in the status bar.

    Please check the latest SVN repository.

    Thanks Ryo! I’ll take a look and see how it works. Cheers!

    heya, I just installed it from Synaptic (0.4.6.1) but I can’t seem to do anything with this ultra lightweight goodie. I love how it starts in about a second or two (I run TinyMe) but that’s about all I can do - I type an address and hit “enter” and the browser crashes, then I go to play wih preferences and it also crashes when I click “fonts”. Is there a way to fix these? I asked for the devs to update repos to v 0.5.1 at least but till that happens should I just wait? Thanks and cheers!

    If you’ve installed it out of Synaptic and it’s crashing, then there might be a problem with the package. It did that to me a long time ago, and if I remember right, what fixed it was installing Firefox as well, then reinstalling Kazehakase. (I think it needed the Gecko engine?) But don’t hold me to that because I might be mis-remembering it.
