Jamendo’s new look

Jamendo has a new look, if you happen to recall the old one. Their blog describes the changes better than I can. A little more orange, a little more playback control up front, and a few improvements that I prefer — namely, the ability to download straight from HTTP instead of via torrent.

I do prefer torrents when I can use them, but I still can’t use them at home, so I’m a bit frustrated by that sometimes. Straight downloads are a huge boost for me (especially since I get phenomenal speeds just from HTTP). It looks like all my downloads are mp3 files right now; I’d prefer ogg just for peace of mind, but I’m not a purist. I’ll take what I can get. πŸ˜‰

Green smilie for Jamendo!

I still like blue one better. The new one is a little bit harder on the eyes, and it lacks some of the consistancy that the other site. (Mainly I miss the side bar on the left when looking at stuff in a person’s profile.) And I can’t seem to find the “new album” notifications. (http://blue.jamendo.com/en/news/insert_username_here)

On the other hand, the “Your starred albums” and “Jamendo player” pages are a big improvement.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but I’m new to Jamendo, and when I click the download link for an album, the popup endlessly reloads, requeing me, never giving me a download link whatsoever. Help?

I am not a real fan of the new color scheme, but aside from that the new design does have a more streamlined feel to it. I did notice that it does appear to be lacking some previous features though.. (e.g., I didn’t see the recommended albums list and http://ogg.jamendo.com/en/ just shows the main page now.)

The availability of HTTP downloads is definitely a big plus even if they are only offering MP3s at the moment. That said.. I will be sticking to torrents until ogg is available via HTTP as well.

@James: I’ve seen that too; I’m not sure why it happens, but I’m 99 percent sure it’s a bug of some sort. Maybe later I can drop a note to the Jamendo crew (you could do that too), mentioning that perpetual loop effect. It’s kind of comical really, since it sometimes pushes me back in the download queue. πŸ™„

We made a lot, of changes, a LOT I said πŸ™‚ a lot of new functionalities, new possibilities… download HTTP and the player are our major changements as well as our major issues πŸ™‚

We’re working a lot to fix all stuffs that are strange like the continuous reload of the popup when in download queue, or the non working player for some people …

So just be patient, we’re downloading also and this popup is our main fix target πŸ™‚
