GPRename is something I’ve been wanting for a long time — a straightforward GUI-driven renaming tool that doesn’t force me to use one desktop environment or one file manager or another. For a while I had been using some command line-driven utilities to rename and tag, but this is much more gratifying.
That’s the Arch version running under Openbox.
Renaming options are easy to handle, although they have to be applied step by step. In other words, if you want to change an entire file prefix and append it with a counter, that’s two renaming steps, not one. It might take a little to get used to, but once you understand how it works, it’s a magic little tool.
Best of all, like I mentioned before, it’s not rooted in one desktop manager or an afterthought to another file manager. It’s free standing, lightweight, does one thing … and does it exceptionally well.
