UF survives first DDOS attack

ubuntu-geek told the staff today that the forum got its first DDOS attack in the four years it has been running.

I don’t have a lot of details and don’t really understand the mechanics, but u-g said someone was using Apache in attempt to crash the forums. The IP was blocked on the network side, and at the moment, things are okay, he said.

There seem to have been a spate of DDOS attacks against Linux-oriented sites recently. Distrowatch was attacked over the weekend that caused an outage.

Someone out there doesn’t like Linux, which is sad. Or Ubuntu. Or maybe they just don’t like the forums.

Or maybe they didn’t like Chuck Norris Week! ;)

Chuck Norris can DDOS your website without even using a computer. I thought everyone knew what. ;P
