PUD GNU/Linux releases v0.4.7, a Feisty version

Edit: Unfortunately, the images originally included in this post are gone, because of hosting problems in late 2009. My apologies.

My favorite live Ubuntu CD has made the leap to Feisty. Penk’s PUD GNU/Linux 0.4.7 is built off 7.04 and is an LXDE version of Ubuntu. I find it indispensable when I’m working with older or slower machines, since it gives me the opportunity to test a machine in a lightweight Ubuntu environment, and see how it will respond.

I’m downloading it now, and I’ll see if I can come up with a screenshot later.

Edit: Okay, here’s one for you.

That’s more than a screenshot, really. That’s a Gateway Solo 266Mhz Pentium II machine, with a 4Mb Trident video card running PUD GNU/Linux 0.4.7. I borrowed the machine from work under the pretense that I was disassembling my laptop and wanted something to connect to the Internet in case of difficulty. Which was true, in part. I am connected to the Internet. I’m just using it to seed the 7.04 desktop ISO. :D

I like messing with Penk’s live CD, really. It’s small, it’s intended to be lightweight, and although it has some odd packages included, it’s fun to poke and prod. I’m busy yanking out some packages right now, and replacing them with others. There’s a lot more XFCE in there than I would like, so I’m trying to see if I can get a reasonable Openbox variant built in the live environment — which should tell you what I’ve been thinking about these days. …

Nice. Do you think that’d work on my K5?

BTW, I see that neither PUD nor LXDE are translated into Spanish… they could be interesting projects to work with. I just checked, and at the a rate of $0.06 US per word, I’ve given to the Free Software world more than the price of some Windows licenses. Not that I contributed a lot, just a few apps here and there
