That cute framebuffer is slowing me down

I dig the 1024×768 framebuffer I get with Arch — the logo is cool, I like the console font better, it’s much more spacious …

But it’s bumping my boot time upward by almost 3 seconds while the video element kicks in. That is unacceptable. I can suffer through the boot sequence with a teeny little console, but those 3 seconds are valuable.

P.S.: Call me crazy, but I think the screen actually scrolls slower with that framebuffer too.
