One of the rare options I see listed for Nvidia cards is the CursorShadow enhancement. It’s a quick and easy tweak that gives a nice shadow effect to the X cursor, following whatever shape it happens to be at the time.
Add this to the Device section of your xorg.conf file to get the shadow on boot.
Option "CursorShadow" "true"
It’s also an option under the Nvidia Settings menu, if you have that with your driver. I can set mine that way, but for some reason it doesn’t carry over to the next reboot. That could just be me, though.
More settings that are available under the xorg.conf Device section:
Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "integer"
Option "CursorShadowXOffset" "integer"
Option "CursorShadowYOffset" "integer"
Those should be fairly self-explanatory. Xoffset and yoffset determine the location of the shadow relative to the cursor; CursorShadowAlpha is a range from 0 (transparent) to 255 (opaque) for the alpha level of the shadow. The default is 64, but I like 48 because it makes the shadow a little less noticeable.
Added bonus: Turn off the logo on boot with this one.
Option "NoLogo"
For me it cuts the boot time by a second or so.
